Whilst the name J.W. Benson may not be well known today, it was once held in high regard. It was originally founded in 1847 by Samuel Suckley Benson and James William Benson as S. S. & J. W. Benson. When the partnership was dissolved in 1855, James William continuedthe business under the name 'J. W. Benson'. Ultimately the brand was purchased by Garrard, the crown jewellers, in 1972 and the name was eventually lost to history.
